You get an audio track...and you get an audio track...everyone gets an audio track
By far the simplest piece of advice I can offer that will improve the quality of your podcast audio is to put every guest on a separate audio track. Don’t have everyone crowded around one microphone if they are in studio with you. If they are on a remote platform like Riverside.fm, Cleanfeed, Zencastr or one of the others, just make sure to record everyone on a separate audio file.
Then when you are editing, put each audio file into another track in the editing platform’s timeline. When a person is not talking, either mute their track for that time sequence, or physically edit and delete that part of the track. Do this for each person who is not speaking and you’ll end up with a much better, clearer sounding recording.
